ABOUT

All Rise!!! The Court is now in session. The Honourable Chief Justice Chivenge presiding.

Welcome to Musings of Chief Justice Chivenge, a space where law is unpacked, questioned, and explained in plain language.

The law governs nearly every aspect of our lives, yet legal language is often so complex that it becomes inaccessible to the very people it is meant to serve. Law should not feel like a secret code understood only by those who attended law school. Law is everyone.

Here, legal principles, court decisions, and issues of justice are explored in a way that is clear, thoughtful, accessible (and dare I say with a little humour). Whether you are a law student, professional, or simply curious about how the law shapes our world, the aim is simple: to make the law understandable for everyone.

“Not only must be justice be done; it must be seen to be done”– Chief Justice Lord Hewart

ABOUT THE COURT

At Musings of Chief Justice Chivenge, complex legal ideas are translated into everyday language in our two divisions of the court.

The justice jots division is where different aspects of law are discussed and analyzed though articles. Each article aims to bridge the gap between technical legal scholarship (over- lawyering) and practical understanding. These musings are intended not only to explain the law but also to encourage readers to think critically about justice and accountability.

The on the docket division is one of the central features of this court and that is the Weekly Warrant with Chief Justice Chivenge. In this division, a case is placed “on the docket” and examined through a clear and structured discussion of the facts of the case; the legal issues before the court; the rule of law, judgement and the court’s reasoning; and Chief Justice Chivenge’s musings and reflections on the broader implications of that case for law and society

Disclaimer: These are the well researched Musings of Chief Justice Chivenge and should in no way be taken as concise legal advise. This court does not give legal advise. Engage the services of a lawyer for specific legal advise- but stay educated nonetheless.
